Art 3 snapshot #2

I have finally finished my book project. It took a lot of time and patience but it finally paid off. I figured out that using ink as the background would really make the word SHRINK stand out and you could still see the text on the page below. The blue really blends well with the book and the yellow makes the word shine through. If you look from the top it looks like it is all leveled out but when you look from the side the word lowers into the book.

Next project:
As of right now i am in the research phase but i hope to find something soon and get right to work

Text Art

I used a pinterist board to collect my ideas for my project. It consisted of many pins of different ways to portray text art in a book.

Challenge #1
I created my initials out of sports team logos

Challenge #2
I created a Water tower using the letter needed to write the word.

For my final I have chosen to cut out the word shrink into a book and make it get smaller and smaller as you look into the book.

Book carving

Prompt: Explain how you developed your design for your book carving. How important was it to have a clear plan before starting? What were the challenges you faced when working on this project? Explain how you overcame them. Discuss your design and how it relates to the book you chose (if that was the case, if not just discuss design). Did you take any risks? How and why? Describe how you felt about the overall project and if you felt it was successful.

When I started thinking of what to do for my book i had no clue what to do. One of the topics had something to do with question. A question mark sounded like a great idea so drew one. To make it even better i drew multiple marks that were all different shapes and colors.  It was very important to have a clear plan so that you could stay on track and know what you were doing.  I cut threw my shapes way to many times so i had to keep pulling them out over and over again.  I took alot of risks by overlapping some of the marks. Plus the knife cut me a few times while trying to get the final page of every layer.  This was my least favorite project mainly because of how boring it was but it definatley turned out pretty good.

2. Describe your experience with using mixed media. What mixed media did you use for your piece?

3. What role did our lessons on visual journaling play in the success of your piece? Explain.

- They showed me what i can do to make the artwork better and how to make a bigger variety.

4. Discuss any challenges you experienced and how you overcame obstacles.

-The tissue paper was being difficult and not sticking down when i wanted it to.

Sticky situations

1. Explain how you developed your ideas for "Sticky Situation"

Well, first i thought of some ideas on my own and then i brainstormed in a group. All the ideas i got were too original so i knew i had to think of something different and i came up with honey.

2. Were you able to think outside the box when you were thinking about ideas?

I think so but i dont know how random mine was.

3. You were to incorporate repetition, rhytnm or pattern. How did you accomplish this?

I drew alot of bees around the hive. They were each all different sizes.

4. Describe your choice of media (acrylic, watercolor) and your challenges and successes while using it.

I used acrylic paint and the hardest part for me was blending the colors.

5. How important were the mini lessons to the success of your final product?

Up close and personal

1. Upclose and Personal was our theme. How did you develop your ideas for this project and why did you choose your subject?

I chose the ladybug because when i think if up close i think of a small thing like a big.

2. How did you demonstrate Emphasis in your work?

I used complimentary colors to show the different values in both the ladybug and the leaves.

3. What medium did you decide to use and why did you choose this medium over the others? Discuss how it enhances your piece.

I chose prisma colors because they are easy to blend with each other and an overall easy medium to use. The other reason is that it is less messy than the other mediums.

We encourage risk taking in art. Risk taking can be as simple as trying a new technique or learning about a new medium to as complex as trying something totally new.

4.. Did you take any risks with this project? Explain.
I did go darker than i usually do in this piece of art. On te shadow i took a risk and made it dark with a purple and it turned out pretty good.
5. Of the 5 characteristics of great art (technique, concept, emotion, new, medium) which did you include in your art?

I used medium and technique to make my ladybug. My technique is alot different from everyone elses so mine stood out alot from everyones.
